Don’t be fooled by the sweet face. He’s planning to kill you.
In a couple weeks, Karli and I will be celebrating our 10th anniversary. We’re old, I know.
For almost as long, we’ve had a cat. He was yowling in a barn at Karli’s aunt’s house on Thanksgiving the year we were married. The vet guessed he was about 5-6 months old at the time, so we’ve always just said he was born on the day of our wedding. Pretty much as long as we’ve been married, we’ve had Turk.
Then, last year, along came Squatch. At first, Turk didn’t know quite how to react to a baby. He was cautious and stayed away. When we were feeding the baby, Turk would crawl up on our laps and sit with us. That and occasionally sniffing Squatch’s head while he was napping was about as close as he’d get.
As Squatch got a older, Turk got a little more accustomed to having all the attention stolen away from him. He’s slowly learning to share the spotlight a little. He’s getting the hang of being number 2. Well, being number 1b.
The cat has been surprisingly good with Squatch. He puts up with quite a bit of poking and tugging and squishing from a newly-mobile baby. Usually, when Karli does the same thing to him, she ends up with an arm full of cat fangs, which has only happened once with Squatch so far. Usually, their relationship is pretty much like this:

Yeah, they’re buds. In a Professor X/Magneto kinda way, I think. Which one is which has yet to be determined.

You’re not kidding. I’m watching him do it as I type this. It never gets old apparently.
We’ll be married ten years. We’ve been together a little over 13 years. We’re old.

Our boy and our dog have developed a sibling rivalry. The Boy will do things like push the dog off the couch if he’s sitting too close, and he will start whining if he thinks Homer is staring at him too long. I think it’s so interesting learning about the relationship between our kids and our pets, because – just like kids – pets have their own personalities.
Oh, and by the way, cute kid and cute cat!
That first video reminded me of just about any conversation between my mom and my dad, Squatch being my mom and Turk being my dad. Mom: “blah blah blah blah BLAH BLAH BLAH blah blah.” Dad: “uh huh” Mom: “blah blah bla….” Dad: “……….mmm.” Mom: “blah BLAH BLAH blah blah.” And kudos on 10 years…we are coming up on 11. The biggest bonus is that now when you go to weddings and they do that whole married couples dance to see who has been together the longest, you get to make it to the round where the DJ says, “Stay on the dance floor if you’ve been married 10 years or longer.” It’s exhilarating.
Congrats on 10 years! And I love the different relationships between pets and kiddos. Looks like Squatch and Turk are good siblings! 🙂 So cute with the swimming pool, too.
One of my cats was about the meanest cat you could find before we had our first kid. After we brought her home he did an almost 180 in his behaviour. It was pretty amazing.

You sure he’s not using the pool as some sort of anti cat shield?
That makes a whole lot of sense, actually. My kid’s a genius.
I’m very impressed that A) he’s only slightly mangled by the cat and keeps at it and 2) he learned to bark when he has a cat. I can’t explain why mine sounds like a pterodactyl though.
If anything, he does it more now. I don’t know if that’s because he hasn’t learned or because he finds it funny.
